Goodbye fountain

We are taking advantage of the lovely mild winter weather to work on the garden in Brisbane.  Out goes the fountain in the front garden, why you may ask…well it was here when we bought the house. It is just not our style and after 17 years, I cannot believe it took so long, we sold it on Ebay!!! My first sale on Ebay.

The new owner is delighted – the same day when she returned home she had water blasted it back to the original cream finish.

Our neighbour Duncan, he is the one with hands on hips, came in to help lift the heavy concrete parts out. The whole project took three men, a trolley and a trailer.

There was a bit of chipping away at the concrete base but that did not deter the new owner. John in the red shirt, took some of the plants out to make it easier to attack the base.

So the replacement is a large terracotta urn that Queensland sculptor Rhyl Hinwood and her husband gave us for our wedding present. It features a garland of  Cooktown Orchids, the Queensland flower emblem. Now I know it is obscured by the foliage beneath, that will be removed and replaced with new plants, that is when I find something that will not screen the elegant base. We relocated the urn from the back garden where it used to sit in the middle of a circular brick paved area that is going to make way for lawn.  Back garden makeover coming soon.

Roz, that looks like heavy work! I’m glad the fountain found a good home, though. The urn seems a far more elegant replacement…

Well done for your first ebay sale! And I can imagine how delighted the winner would have been :D
