Drift is owned by Thomas Dicker one of the former co-owners of Angasi, the restaurant that had a very good reputation in the Bay of Fires township of Binalong Bay where we have a holiday home. It closed much to the chagrin of many tourists, yachties and locals but thankfully there is still a restaurant that now operates as the Binalong Bay Cafe.
The location of Drift is almost as sensational, right next to the surf lifesaving club. Drift also has a trendy hamburger bar, but it is nothing like the hamburger places you would have seen in the past at the beach, the menu is more adventurous. This is such a good idea as it allows the staff to stay busy even if it is quiet in the restaurant sometimes during the day.
We were on our way to the Spirit of Tasmania car ferry so we called in for an early dinner, a snack really as we had lunched superby at the Josef Chromy winery and restaurant just south of Launceston.
And the fish and chips were cooked to perfection, and it was hard to keep my hands out of John’s bowl of chips, the crunchiest textured chips I have ever eaten.
I had seafood fritters of prawn and scallops that were crisply fried and with the dipping sauce found that the entree was still a generous size and enough to keep me from eating any inferior food on the car ferry.
I am definitely going back with an empty stomach next time.
